HOT STONE MASSAGE -VERY RELAXING AND POPULAR MASSAGE THERAPY METHODY
Hot stone massage is a type of massage therapy that involves the use of smooth, heated stones. The massage therapist places the hot stones on specific points on your body and may also hold the stones while giving the massage. The localized heat and weight of the stones warm and relax muscles, allowing the massage therapist to apply deeper pressure to those areas without causing discomfort.
Is It Painful?
The hot stones are smooth and typically several inches long. The stones should be warmed using a professional electric massage stone heater so that the temperature can be controlled. If the stones are too hot or uncomfortable, be sure to let the massage therapist know immediately. Stones that are too hot can cause burns.
The heat of the stones allows the massage therapist work on deep tissue, if needed. As with any massage, however, massage therapy shouldn't hurt and you should tell your massage therapist if you feel any pain.
What to Expect
During the massage, the therapist places stones on specific points on the body. While the points may vary depending on the areas of muscle tension and the client's health history, the stones are generally placed in the following areas:
Along both sides of the spine
In the palms of your hand
On your legs, abdomen, feet
Small stones may be placed between the toes or on the forehead.
After the stones are placed on your body, it may take a few minutes for the heat to penetrate the sheet or towel so you can discern whether the stones are too hot.
The therapist applies massage oil to the skin. Holding stones in both hands, the therapist uses gliding movements to move the stones along the muscles. The therapist uses Swedish massage techniques on the back, legs, neck, and shoulders while the stones are in place or after they have been removed.
The length of a typical hot stone massage is between 60 and 90 minutes.
Who Shouldn't Get a Hot Stone Massage
While hot stone massage is generally considered safe when performed by a trained and licensed massage therapist, it's not right for everyone. Consult your doctor if you have a medical condition, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, varicose veins, migraines, autoimmune disease, decreased pain sensitivity, cancer, autoimmune disease, epilepsy, tumors, or metal implants, or are on medication that thins the blood.
Also, check with your doctor if you have had recent surgery or have recent wounds or areas of weakened or inflamed skin.
Pregnant women and children should avoid hot stone massage.
To prevent burns, a professional massage stone heater should be used (microwaves, ovens, hot plates, and slow cookers should never be used).
Hot stone massage has continued to evolve, with many massage therapists and spas offering their own versions of the massage.
Whether you're trying massage for the first time or are already a fan and interested in trying something new, talk with your massage therapist (and healthcare provider) about whether hot stone massage is appropriate for you. While many people find the warmth deeply relaxing and beneficial for the mind, body, and spirit, you also want to make sure that it's right type of bodywork for you—especially if you have a health condition or injury.

Lehto Peat Moss Treatment is pure Finnish natural product, which is lifted out of the mire without heavy machinery in order to prevent breakage of the composition. The Peat accepted only the best raw Always. Immediately after lifting turf ground to a very fine paste. Peat is not removed and does not add anything, just incorrupt wood pieces are screened by mass, thereby ensuring consistent quality turf.
Shoulder/back treatment is a powerful way to relax your back/neck muscles.
Treatment descrtiption: Pre-heated peat (40-42 Celsius) is spread to the back area and then covered with a plastic wrap. The heat-packages filled with peat are then put on top of the plastic wrapping. Together they give a really nice warmth and the back will draw nicely and the bioactive elements of the treatment peat can infiltrate the muscles effectively. While the peat is affecting the back, head, arms and legs are massaged.
After 20 minutes the wrapping and some of the peat is taken away. After that massage oil is applied to the back and a suction cup massage is given to the back area. After this the rest of the peat is taken away with a warm towel.
The massage oil will then be applied again to the back and another massage is being given by using the so called Aaltonen- method, which will further relax the muscles and opens up possible locks in the vertebra areas. The peat treatment also removes fluids from the body and speeds up the metabolism. Treatment is very effective for example caring lowerback illnesses because treatment peat and Aaltonen- method massage together will help to straighten the muscle based obliqueness of the back which normally causes pains in the back area.
What is Peat?
Peat is a pure Finnish product, which is dug from the marsh by hands and a shovel to prevent the consistency to break down. Only the best raw material is accepted as curing peat. This is ground to a fine mass instantly after being dug. The peat is not drained, nothing is added to it – only non-mouldered wooden pieces are taken away.
The therapeutic effect of the peat is based on the high temperature used during treatments, on the antiseptic effect of the peat itself and on activating effects of the biological elements.
The most important therapeutically acting substances are the Humid acids 28,50%
Fulvic acids 10,00%
The therapeutic effect of the peat is based on biologically active substances in the peat. The most important factors are the quantity of humic and fulvic acids, which are able to penetrate the skin and activate the tissue functions under the skin.
The peat uses its ”suction cup" like structure to bind the harmful substances in our hormones and releases the hormone and receptor to function normally again. The therapeutic effect is also based on the high bath temperature.
Peat suits everybody, both young and older people. No allergies have been reported to occur during the treatments.
The whole body treatment is not recommended for people with heart problems or high blood pressure or for pregnant women because of possible overheating effects. But there is no reason why local treatments could not be used for this group of people.
