The Chapel of the Northern Lights, the first tourist church of Lapland, was consecrated on February 9th 1986 by bishop Olavi Rimpiläinen. Architect Kari Ojala has designed the chapel as a donation. Altogether the whole building was made possible by donations.
The Chapel of th Northern Lights has been made to serve the holiday-makers at the area of Pyhä-Luosto. Approximately 14 000 visitors per year have taken part to the events held in the chapel. It has also served as a peaceful and quite place for recreation.
The chapel has got many special details - for instance the cross behind the altar has been made out of a 420-years-old tree. The genuine red and gray pines above the altar réflect the Northern lights.
The Chapel of the Northern Lights awaits!
