Bird watching in Pyhä-Luosto
The birdwatching tower of the Tiaislaavu Nature Trail is an excellent spot for birdwatching. There are several other bird-watching towers in the vicinity of the national park in Sokanaapa and Kilpiaapa in Pelkosenniemi. Spot migratory birds from the bird-watching tower along the Tunturiaapa Nature Trail (ca. 5 km). There have been sightings of 128 bird species in Luosto. A common sight is the Siberian Jay (Perisoreus infaustus) singing on the branch of an old pine. The Rough-legged Buzzard (Buteo lagopus)is a bird of prey, which can often be seen circling fell-tops in search of moles.
