Pyhä beach and swimming place

Pyhä beach and swimming place

Pyhä Beach is located about 5 km away from the Pyhä Ski Resort towards Luosto, on the shore of the clear-watered Lake Pyhäjärvi. Astelin Beach (Pyhäntie 1634, 98530 Pelkosenniemi) is a maintained beach by the municipality of Pelkosenniemi, featuring changing rooms, a dry toilet, hut with fireplace, a volleyball court, a pier, and a boat launching area.

The bottom of the beach is sandy and deepens quickly. There is a rescue boat at the shore, but there is no lifeguard on duty. The beach is freely accessible without an entrance fee. During summers, cyanobacteria have been observed at the beach, and its monitoring and information are managed by the Pelkosenniemi municipality.

The parking area for the beach is located along Pyhätie. Parking at the beach itself is prohibited, and access is only allowed for boat launching purposes.

During the summer months, it is possible to rent SUP boards, canoes, kayaks, backraft backpack rafts, and rowboats for fishing by prior arrangement at the beach. For rentals, inquiries can be made at Kairakutsu, Outdoor Artisans, Lucky Ranch, and Pyhä Safaris.

There are also public and rentable beach saunas available at Lake Pyhäjärvi. The public sauna at Kairosmaja's Kari Beach Sauna are open from June onwards, and the smoke sauna at the beach is heated for public use on Wednesdays in June and July. Further sauna details can be found at Kairosmaja.fi. Rentable beach saunas are available at locations such as Mokkatupa Social Dining, Lucky Ranch saloon and sauna, Sunday Morning Resort sauna experience, and Kurula's Resort lakeside sauna.

Fishing in Lake Pyhäjärvi is permitted only with a fishing permit. Fishing permits can be purchased at K-Market Pyhätunturi or online at Pyhän vedet (only in finnish). Remember that in addition to this, you must also have paid the state fishing management fee.

At the other end of Tunturitie from Luosto, you'll find a small beach at Aarnilampi, which is also a sandy swimming spot with changing rooms. Additionally, in the village of Pelkosenniemi, there is another beach along the Kemijoki River (Kemijärventie 80), equipped with a grill hut, outdoor fitness equipment, swings, a place for washing carpets, and a boat launching area.
