JUNIOR FREERIDE BY ANTTI AUTTI

Participants can use either a snowboard or skis. Antti Autti rides on a snowboard, and a possible second instructor will join the day on skis. Participants must be able to comfortably ride at least red slopes and easy, treed terrain outside the slopes. Everyone needs to bring a backpack, and skiers must have poles with them.

During the freeride day, participants will learn about safety related to freeriding and how to approach riding both on and off the slopes. Together with Antti, the group will explore the terrain, discussing how to manage speed in various riding environments, as well as how to anticipate and adapt to unexpected conditions. Participants will improve their ability to read the terrain and snow through these sessions.

Juniors will also be introduced to avalanche safety equipment, which will be available for free rental at the start of the trip. In addition to safe riding, juniors will receive tips on improving their riding technique.

Freeriding is a comprehensive activity, so the group will also practice technique both on the slopes and in the mini park. The day is not just about chasing and shredding powder, though of course powder riding is what every freerider always hopes for.

Expect a varied day with new riding friends and guidance from a professional rider.

THE JUNIOR MUST HAVE:

  • The ability to ride at least red slopes and easy, treed terrain outside the slopes.
  • Equipment: snowboard/skis, helmet, and goggles. Skiers must have poles, as they make moving in the terrain easier.
  • Avalanche safety equipment: beacon, shovel, and probe (available for free rental on-site at the start of the trip).
  • A backpack with a water bottle and optionally a small snack, such as an energy bar.
  • A lift ticket for at least three hours.
  • We recommend insurance that covers riding outside marked slopes.
